Medium-Size Patch 1.0.4 - Fixes, Totems, and Combat Revamp Part 2


A new update has been released: as a reminder, all of the weird stock images are temporary and will disappear once the game gets out of the Google Image edition, which is  to say "whenever the guy who does all of the drawings gets access to an image scanner again"

Additions:

  • Added Souls and Great Souls, they drop respectively from respawning and non-respawning enemies, and their purpose is to activate shrines
    • Regular Souls get reset on death, Great Souls do not
  • As a replacement to the automatic checkpoints, shrines have now been installed all over the place, they each require a set amount of soul and (sometimes) great souls to be activated, and the player may chose any activated shrine to set as their respawn point
    • To note: the current image for shrines depicts the Hindu goddess Kali,  no disrespect was intended putting her there and the sole reason I chose this picture is because it was the only one which vaguely resembled its upcoming final appearance

Changes:

  • Increased spear damage to compensate for the wind-up, the goal for the wind-up was to make a missed attack more punishing, not to make combat longer
  • Changed one of the writings from "Enemies will be more vulnerable once they're parried."  to "Enemies will be more vulnerable once they're stunned."
  • The enemy which can only be killed while stunned will not respawn, and drops a single Great Soul
  • Adjusted some enemy health, damage, and armour values
    • As a reminder armour is a damage divisor and the only situation where enemy armour changes is when they're stunned

Fixes (this is a big one):

  • Enemies will now get away from the player at a less "extreme" pace, and will get away slower/faster depending on how close the player is
  • Enemies will no longer get stuck into walls
  • Enemies will no longer get the player stuck into walls
  • Fixed a lot of Z-fighting issues
    • Like seriously, a Lot of Z-fighting
      • So much that this is the only sub-sub section in a list
        • Just to show you how much Z-fighting was fixed, itch.io doesn't even have enough different symbols for that many sub-sections
  • Fixed some enemy positioning having for some reason moved up since the previous patch
  • Probably some more stuff idk I can't remember
